Deep Diver Speciality

Deep Diver training at Alba

There are many dive sites in the world that allow you to go a little deeper than the 30m limit gained during the advanced open water course. However, the deeper you go, your No Decompression Limit (NDL) will reduce, your gas consumption will increase, and you will increasingly be affected by gas narcosis. The deep diver speciality course will give you a good appreciation of these factors, so that at the very least if you ever found yourself inadvertently deeper than 30m, you will be better armed to stay safe. In our opinion the deep diver course should be taken along with the sidemount and nitrox specialities, so that you are safer at these depths with more gas and longer NDLs. Either way, this course will cover the following:

  • Gas narcosis management.
  • Gas planning.
  • Dive planning.
  • Diving procedures, emergency procedures.
  • Reducing decompression stress.
  • Dive profiles and ascent profiles and procedures.

Raid Deep 40

As with all other Raid courses, the theory can be completed online prior to any practical training, but there will be additional classroom training in the form of gas management sessions. The course is comprised of four open water dives, and normally takes 2 days to complete. Certification will allow you to dive to 40m max.

Prerequisites:
In order to enrol on the course, you need to:

  • Be a minimum of 15 years old.
  • Be certified as a RAID Explorer 30 or equivalent.
  • Complete the RAID registration procedure.

SDI Deep Diver

This course assumes that you are already comfortable with diving to 30m, and so progression to greater depths is more incremental (if this is not the case we can undertake additional lead-up dives). The course is conducted over two dives and normally takes two days to complete. Although the theory can be done online, there is some classroom time involved concerning gas management and planning.

Prerequisites:
In order to enrol on the course, you need to:

  • Be a SDI Open Water Scuba Diver, SDI Junior Open Water Scuba Diver, or equivalent.
  • Be 18 years old, 10 with parental consent.

PADI Deep Diver

The theory side of the PADI course is very basic, and does not really provide any additional information beyond what you learn in the deep dive during the advanced open water course. The practical training involves four open water dives, and the course would ordinarily be completed in two days.

Prerequisites:
In order to enrol on the course, you need to:

  • Be an adventure diver or higher.
  • Be 15 years old.
